Elend

Welcome UP IN THE HARZ

Elend

Picturesque location at the foot of the Brocken mountain

Elend is a small Harz village with unspoiled nature and is just off the Brocken mountain. The wild and romantic Elendstal  in the valley of the river Kalte Bode, between Elend and Schierke, counts to the most beautiful travel experiences and invites those seeking peace and quiet, nature lovers and families to go hiking.

No way you should miss the landmark of Elend – thewooden church built as a half-timbered building in the neo-Gothic style with its barely 60 square meters and the “rolling” altar.

Note: Due to extensive restoration and renovation work, there will be no guided tours throughout 2022, not even by appointment. We ask for your understanding!

The Harz town is still an attractive travel destination to this day, not least because of the easy accessibility by car or the Harzquerbahn, which has its own stop in Elend and “climbs up” from the next station Drei-Annen-Hohne as Brockenbahn to the highest Harz peak – the Brocken mountain.

We look forward to seeing you here UP IN THE HARZ!

A popular observation point is the Schnarcherklippen, somewhat hidden between Elend and Schierke. The Schnarcherklippen are an impressive, two-tower granite rock formation that sounds like you’re snoring in the wind.
