Hackus & Knieste

Hackus & Knieste is a typical Harz dish. It is a simple dish made from potatoes and minced meat (Hackus). It is prepared relatively quickly. You need potatoes, which are cleaned and cut in half. After that, they are placed on a baking paper and coated with oil, sprinkled with salt and caraway seeds and baked in the oven until crispy. The Hackus is processed raw and mixed with eggs and onions as well as spices. Gherkins are served with it.

The Schierker Feuerstein is a herbal liqueur from 1908, that Willy Drube, a young pharmacist, developed for the spa guests in Schierke to treat stomach trouble.
