The main route of the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg starts in Osterode via Buntenbock – Altenau – Torfhaus -Brocken mountain – Drei-Annen-Hohne – Königshütte – Altenbrak – Bodetal valley to Thale.
Those who want to avoid the Brocken mountain should use the bypass and hike from Torfhaus past St. Andreasberg via Braunlage, Elend to Königshütte.
