From 1932 to 1934 the Diakonissen-Mutterhaus was built according to the designs of Godehard Schwethelm in Elbingerode in the middle of the Harz Mountains.

In addition to the construction in the Bauhaus style, a very special architectural feature is outstanding about this building: an indoorswimming pool, which was open to the public, is located directly under the church hall of the mother house.
